Most of us have heard of the Chakra Energy System – a fundamental cornerstone in Ayurvedic Medicine and yogic practices. The seven main Chakras relate to a set of energetic, emotional, mental and spiritual activities. Each is a powerful determinant of human existence. For the most part, the literature focuses on general principles of healing, balancing and awakening attributed to each Chakra.
According to Shai Tubali, head of the Human Greatness Center, a holistic health center in Berlin, “… At a deeper level, the Chakras define seven centers of perception and experience. Through these centers, we experience our own multi-dimensional reality.” Blending his knowledge, skills and experiences with many holistic modalities, he has developed a framework of assessing, utilizing and stabilizing one’s Chakra personality type and then how to use this information in one’s life.
“The Chakra personality types derive from the seven different worldviews related to the seven individual Chakras. Your own personality type depends upon which center of perception – which Chakra – is aroused most easily in you and most naturally get in touch with reality before all others do. This intense identification with your Chakra’s perspective forms your most fundamental personality type – what I call your “major Chakra type” … the Chakras show us how our so-called individual inclinations can be classified into seven types of perception and experience. … We all possess seven Chakra energies that make up our human wholeness, although some are far more active and some are relatively negligible – not necessarily because we have neglected certain aspects of our being, but rather because we are inherently destined to embody and bring to full flowering one major aspect of life and the Cosmos.” The Seven Chakra Personality Types p.xiv Shai Tubali.
In Tubali’s work, he has grouped the seven Chakra personality types into three categories: Material-Earthly; Emotional-Communicative; Mental-Spiritual. As you can guess, these start with the Base (Root) Chakra and work up to the Crown Chakra. The Material-Earthly group is most dedicated to working with materials and objects of sensory perception. They are most closely connected to the world of matter. The Emotional-Communicative group is a world of a more refined type of interaction. They strive to connect and bridge the inner and outer worlds. The Mental-Spiritual group makes its communication with the world the most abstract. This group really doesn’t experience the world directly, but rather as an “idea” and translates this into abstract principles. Their interests and attractions are far less earthly than the other two groups. When we examine the Chakra personality types included in each group, they look like this:
Material-Earthly Group:
-
-
- Root Chakra; The Builders – lovers of details, structures and foundations
- Sacral Chakra; The Artists – lovers of life experience and feeling
- Solar Plexus Chakra; The Achievers – energetic pursuers of ambitions and heights
-
Emotional – Communicative Group:
-
-
- Heart Chakra; The Caretakers – emotionalists who wish to help
- Throat Chakra; The Speakers – charismatic leaders and guides
-
Mental-Spiritual Group:
-
-
- Third-Eye Chakra; The Thinkers – keen observers and idea-makers
- Crown Chakra; The Yogis – silent and reclusive meditators

It is not to say that we operate from only one Chakra personality type at every moment of our life, but we have a leaning towards one type at our deepest level of being for our whole life. There are times that we may need to call upon attributes and strengths of other types to help us through a current situation. This is called Life – and it is normal to call upon that which we need in order to survive and thrive. Yet at our core, we remain true to the Chakra personality type that is us.
There is so much more to understanding and utilizing the qualities of Chakra personality types, but not enough room here to start. At least we’ve started the exploration. More to come in the next few months!
