At a recent meeting, the question came up about how cycles and circumstances factor into the way we see ourselves and the world. Over time, our views and actions may change, but does our true Core Essence change as well?  When we look around us, the world can be explained by its cycles and circumstances.  But can we?  Deep thoughts, indeed!

In many traditions, there is a belief in a Divine Essence – a Spark of the Divine – that is with us at our Core at birth. Call it spirit, energy, life force, chi, ki, or whatever, it is something that is present at birth and throughout our life. If we continue with the concept of energy, we know that energy cannot be destroyed, but it can be transformed. So do the cycles and circumstances we experience during our life, alter this Core Essence?  Or do these things alter the expression of our Core Essence?   This is where it gets a bit tricky!

Traditions relate how the Core Essence is who and what we truly are and it will never be destroyed.  Somewhere along the life path, we can become unclear and disconnected from it because of cycles and circumstances we encounter.  Yet at our Core, we are still the perfect energy we were at birth. These qualities include: Light. Love. Trust. Joy. Expansive. Curious. Creative. Compassion. Courage. When we no longer feel the connection to our Core Essence, we encounter a disconnect from these qualities as well. With a disconnect from these qualities, we will try to figure out a way to live a life without them. It may be a difficult life.  It may be a charmed life. But will we feel fulfilled?  Will we be complete?  Will we feel capable and “enough”?   It will likely be a life of yearning. As the U2 song says, “.. But I still haven’t found what I’m looking for.”  So the question becomes:  where are you looking?

The outside world is full of wonder and awe. It is also full of deception and heartache. If you search for your answers only from the outside world, you will have only a piece of the puzzle.  It is important to know what is happening in the world, but it is not necessarily going to give you the answers you are looking for.  Your answers lie deep within your own life experiences, your inner thoughts and feelings and your connection to your Divine Spark. Only you can live your life.  Only you can truly understand what it means to be you. And as you become more in tune with yourself on all levels of understanding, you strip away the things that have blocked you with remembering and connecting to your Divine Essence. Your Core Essence.  That which you have always had within you but became blocked from remembering and connecting with it.

It is akin to coming home to yourself. Not what others think/expect of you or what your ego forces you to become. Everyone’s expression of True Self looks different because everyone has lived a different life experience. That’s the unique part of you being you. But at the Core, we are all the same.

How do you connect with your Divine Core Energy?  Start with baby-steps!  Find ways to reduce distractions and negative messages coming at you from the outside world. This helps to offer quiet moments to just be with your own thoughts and feelings. Get out in Nature and enjoy its beauty and bounty.  Let its beauty fill you with awe and appreciation. Do something creative: art, music, crafts, gardening, cooking, writing. This helps switch off your analytical (perhaps judgemental) thinking and moves it into a more carefree, expansive experience. Learn how to meditate – even 5 minutes a day is better than 0 minutes a day!  There are many ways to meditate and all have the goal of helping you to find your connection to the Divine. And since your Spark is of the Divine, so are you.

As your connection to your Core Essence becomes clearer and stronger, so will your sense of connection to the Universal Divine Energy.  This is a powerful partner to have as you navigate our life’s journey. You don’t have to do it alone.
